13 Barrida: Solo Practice

Today you’ll want a smooth surface so your toes can easily slide, but you don’t need shoes.

Ex1 Without music, practice projection, barrida (flexing knee and hip) and pivots. Continue improvising on one leg until you really feel you need to change the base leg.

Ex2 Now with music, walk in all directions, making projections in any direction between some of the steps. Now turn some of those projections into barridas with and without pivots.

Ex3 Now add crosses imagining your foot being pushed or pulled into the cross as if by your partner’s foot.

13 Barrida: Pair Practice

Today you’ll want a smooth surface so your toes can easily slide, but you don’t need shoes.

Ex1 Working alone and without music, practice projection, barrida (flexing knee and hip) and pivots. Continue improvising on one leg until you really feel you need to change the base leg.

Ex2 Now working together with music and dancing very slowly, the Revel needs to be sure to give first and second projection and the Mark can seize any of those to mark barrida and toquada.

Ex3 Now continue, adding pivot.

Ex4 Now dance try any of the variations you feel ready for: flying, crosses, sandwichito, or pupleades.
