11 Crosses: Solo Practice

You can dance on any surface today, in any shoes, so go outside with your headphones if you want.

But before you go, be sure to review the technique and take some notes!

Ex1 First train the technique for doing front and back crosses, at least 20 times with each foot in each direction.  (4 possibilities)

Ex2 For Marks, train the technique for marking front and back crosses, with both feet in both directions (8 possibilities). Be sure to get used to stopping in the correct parada position and using your rear ankle flexion/extension to guide the cross. Glue your elbows to the front of your ribcage with your palms facing up in front of you, so you can check the effectiveness of your crosses by watching your hands move diagonally.

Ex3 With music, wander around any way you want, doing front and back crosses when the music moves you. Do them after little steps, after big steps, after rebotes, with pivots in both directions.  Vary the dynamic with lots of momentum and super gently.

Ex4 For Marks, repeat Exercise 3 slowly, visualizing each cross that you mark and considering the options for your own feet at the conclusion.

11 Crosses: Pair Practice

You can dance on any surface today, in any shoes, so go outside with your headphones if you want.

But before you go, be sure to review the technique and take some notes!

Ex1 First, both working alone, train the technique for doing front and back crosses, at least 20 times with each foot in each direction.  (4 possibilities)

Ex2 Now working together, train the technique for marking front and back crosses and changes of foot, with both feet in both directions. Marks: Be sure to get used to stopping in the correct parada position and using your rear ankle flexion/extension to guide the cross. Revels just WAIT in the 2nd projection to see what happens.

Ex3 With music, use front, back, and side steps as the base of your dance (no ochos or giros), doing front and back crosses when the music moves you. Do them after little steps, after big steps, after rebotes, with pivots in both directions.  Vary the dynamic with lots of momentum and super gently.

Ex4 (Advanced) Try some interesting exits directly after crosses instead of just walking. Try sacadas, voleos, and ganchos.
