Last winter I wandered into an old church where some sweet Italian grandmothers were selling donated household goods to benefit refugees.

I found a decanter with a gorgeous spherical top.

I was drinking vino sfuso. The famous wines of Northern Italy are very tannic and acidic, but they calm down with some air, so I thought it might be useful to decant them. 

Little did I know the decanter would add yet another dimension of pleasure to the wine. It slows down the process of pouring. I hold the luxuriously heavy glass sphere in my hand.
