Getting Started

In the last few years, health and medicine journalists have seized on the idea that dancing is good for you, not only physically, but emotionally.

The Sydney Morning Herald published a short report on recent Australian research regarding tango and depression. Researchers compared tango with cross training and meditation, practices already thought to be good at alleviating both depression and its symptoms. They found tango to be effective.

One of the most interesting projects in this regard is the Buenos Aires action-research project Psicotango. They are doing projects in hospital wards with a variety of people, including those terminally ill (along with their families) and those with serious psychiatric problems. The outcomes are informative to us all.

Their website is here, just scroll down past a lot of pictures to see the text in English.
